Sussex Sparkling wines sponsor the ICCWS 2016.
Rathfinny is dedicated to producing some of the finest sparkling wine from a perfect site in East Sussex. Located just south of Alfriston, towards the eastern end of the beautiful South Downs, the free draining chalk soils, south facing slope and ‘semi-continental climate’, with average rainfall of between 500-650mm per annum make this a perfect site to grow grapes for sparkling wine.
Established in 2010, Rathfinny has just harvested its first grapes from the 160-acre (64 hectare) vineyard and this wine will be released in 2018. Eventually the Estate will be producing over a million bottles of the finest Sussex Sparkling wine. All hand processed, bottled and aged on the Estate.
Why has Rathfinny decided to sponsor ICCWS 2016?
England is increasingly being recognised for its quality sparkling wines and Sussex Sparkling wines have won some of the top accolades in the world, winning ‘Best Sparkling Wine’ in Worldwide International competitions no fewer than eight times. Hosting the ICCWS in 2016 will give us the opportunity to showcase the spectacular quality of the wines currently being produced in England.
Mark Driver the owner of Rathfinny said: “We are still a very small wine producing region but increasingly we are being recognised for the quality of wine that we are producing. I believe that hosting the ICCWS in 2016 will give us the opportunity to showcase our winemaking skills, knowledge and practices.”
