The English Wine Producers stand at Prowein in Düsseldorff will be the stage for the official launch of the International Cool Climate Wine Symposium on Monday 24 March at 11am.
Members of the organising committee will unveil the initial programme, drawn up with the help of the International Advisory Panel, chaired by Chris Foss, head of the Wine Department at Plumpton College.
“We are very proud to be part of a vision for the future of the cool climate wine sector,” said Chris ahead of the launch. “The ICCWS has a proven track record in putting host locations – all emerging cool climate regions – firmly onto the international fine wine map.”
“We are extremely excited to be hosting the ICCWS in the UK in 2016,” added Justin Howard-Sneyd MW on behalf of the ICCWS organising committee. Both a producer and consultant to Laithwaite’s Wine, one of the ICCWS sponsors, Justin believes that the event “is undoubtedly a major platform to bring together the world’s leading producers and experts in cool climate viticulture, winemaking, research and promotion.”
Key committee members present will include English Wine Producers’ Julia Trustram Eve, and Mardi and Tamara Roberts from Ridgeview Wine Estate. As it happens, it was Tamara’s father Mike Roberts, founder of Ridgeview, who was so influential in England winning the bid to host the ICCWS.
So, if you happen to be at Prowein, join Julia and the committee at Stand DO2, Hall 6 for a glass of bubbly to celebrate the arrival of this, the foremost international forum dealing with wine production in cooler climes on English soil for the first time. And if, like me, you’re not in Düsseldorff, check back on the website, and all will be revealed.
